Travel, Learn, Gain a Global Perspective
Welcome to the Center for Global Studies!
The Center for Global Studies is a magnet school-within-a-school
committed to preparing students to become citizens of our global
society.
Our 270 students learn Arabic, Chinese or Japanese, study the
cultures and history of Asia or the Middle East, read literature from
around the world, and travel on two-week Study Tours to broaden
their understanding of the world.
The CGS is located within Norwalk’s Brien McMahon High School, a
comprehensive high school that has recently completed a $73
million renovation. The result is a beautiful building that is home to
a diverse student population of more than 1600 students. The CGS
occupies a section of a new wing, and our classrooms are
equipped with Smartboards and computers. We have a large
community room for cultural events and a kitchen where students
cook international foods.
Students choose to come to the CGS from all over Fairfield County –
from suburbs like Darien, New Canaan and Fairfield and cities like
Bridgeport, Stamford and Norwalk. They come for as little as one
year but many stay for their entire high school career. They study
language, literature and history in the CGS, and they enroll in math,
science, gym, health, and other electives in Brien McMahon HS.
Our students are special. They want to learn unusual languages
and gain cultural understanding. They want to travel to foreign
countries to live with families, attend school and see the world.
They want to make friends with students from different towns. Their
intellectual energy and curiosity create a vibrant sense of community
in the Center for Global Studies.
Please learn more about us from this website or by contacting the
CGS for more information.
